Careers
"Pupils receive a high-quality independent careers advice and guidance programme. This prepares them extremely well for their next steps in education, employment or training."
Ofsted, 2022
Overview
At Broughton High School, we approach the word career as a verb rather than a noun. Rather than simply helping people become a teacher, doctor mechanic etc. the school looks upon careers as ‘becoming’, ‘learning’ ‘developing’, ‘changing’ ‘exploring’, deciding’, ‘challenging’ or even ‘settling’. A well-developed and rounded careers programme is vital for all year groups as they navigate through five years in school. Pupils will gain experiences and encounters with various career experts in addition to developing their employability skills which empower our pupils to live happy and fulfilling lives.
At Broughton High School, we are proud to offer an impartial, bespoke, enriching careers experience across both KS3 and KS4.
As pupils progress through Key Stage 3 they develop their employability skills whilst being exposed to the variety of employment and training options post-16.
Key Stage 4 allows pupils to prepare for employment and further education by developing their personal brand, to CV-writing and interview technique. All Year 10 pupils will undertake a work experience placement providing a valuable insight into the workplace and the world of work. Year 11 pupils are introduced to a variety of local colleges and technical providers and coached through the application process for their chosen route as they prepare for life beyond Broughton High School.
Informed by our destination profiles and the Gatsby Benchmarks, bespoke careers events are planned in collaboration with employers and enterprise organisations to provide expert knowledge on employability and career paths. Pupils are provided with ample support from school staff and are offered impartial careers advise from Fahima Patel from Careers North. We are delighted to have a collaboration with CEIAG experts Careers North, whose details can be found here. Fahima Patel is with us on a Monday and Tuesday. We offer one to one meetings with Fahima as well as drop in sessions on a Monday and Tuesday lunch time.
As a school we have invested in Unifrog, an online platform that provides a plethora of resources for pupils to tap into, from looking up career pathways to taking personality quizzes to help them make informed choices about their future.
More information about Unifrog can be found on the parent and pupil information sheets and a link to the website can be found here
All pupils have a log in. Parents can also sign up using the code: BRHSparents
