School Uniform and Equipment
Every pupil at Broughton High School must wear school uniform. This creates a strong ethos, a sense of identity and pride in the school. The wearing of school uniform helps to promote school values and discipline. It also creates a positive environment in which teaching and learning can be maximised.
Broughton uniform
In line with the government’s new Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill, secondary schools should not require parents/guardians to buy more than four items of branded school uniform. Therefore, when you need to replace items of uniform for the next academic year, please note the following changes will be made, from September 2026, regarding our school uniform.
Branded items will be as follows (as per the current uniform policy)
- Blazer
- Trousers (male/female) or skirt
- PE top (male or female)
- Tie
The following items can be Unbranded from September 2026 (note: branded items are still permitted)
- Plain navy V neck jumper (optional)
- Plain navy football socks
-
Plain navy over the head hoodie for PE
-
Plain navy school PE shorts
- Navy leggings
Optional items:
- Swacket (with logo)
- Girls – Navy Juco 2 in 1 shorts (with logo), although plain navy PE shorts can be worn as detailed above.
No items of school uniform should have visible sportwear branding.

All items of clothing and footwear should be clearly marked with the name of the pupil so they may be identified and returned if lost.
Jewellery is not allowed for reasons of safety except for wrist watches and a single pair of small, plain stud earrings (no stretchers) in each ear lobe as a maximum amount of jewellery. Any other facial or body piercing is not allowed.
Ensure hair colouring is natural. Extreme hairstyles, cuts and adornments are not allowed in school. This includes lines shaved into the hair or eyebrow(s).
Nail varnish and nail extensions are not allowed in school. Make up, including fake tan or false eyelashes should not be worn. Pupils will be asked to remove these and a sanction will be given. If fake tan, false eyelashes or make up cannot be removed, the pupils will work in our Reflection Room.
