Friday 27 March 2026 Company Programme Regional Finals - Success! A huge well done is due for our Year 10 Company Programme. On Wednesday 25th March, they attended Edge Hill to compete in the regional finals for the Company of The Year. During the day they had to set up their trade stand, be interviewed by a panel of business experts, and present their company to a full lecture theatre. They came up against stiff competition from a range of schools. Despite being the youngest pupils to make it to the finals, they were able to secure the Creativity Award for their company, Little Joys.

Friday 27 March 2026 Broughton National Book Token Competition We are pleased to announce the winners of our in-house National Book Token competition, themed “Go All In”: Isla Clark, Phoebe Knight and Jessica Rawson. Each pupil demonstrated creativity and enthusiasm in their entries, fully embracing the theme. Their work stood out among a strong set of submissions, showing excellent effort and imagination. All winners received a gift card from Waterstones and can enjoy choosing a book of their choice.

Friday 27 March 2026 Bank of England Presentation On Thursday, 26th March, Last Thursday a visitor from the Bank of England came in to speak to all pupils in Year 10 about careers in the financial sector. He spoke about what the Bank of England does, the future of careers in the financial industry and his own career story.

Friday 27 March 2026 Pi-Themed Activities! Congratulations to our Pi Activity Winners who showed infinite skill, tenacity, memory and artistic skills to be awarded prizes for Perfect Circle Drawing, Pi Digit Recital, and Pi Artwork.

Friday 27 March 2026 Rotary Young Chef of the Year Competition Congratulations to Darcy-mae Mcclelland (Year 9) on her outstanding achievement in the Rotary Young Chef of the Year competition for 2025–2026. Being awarded second place at the regional final in Windermere and then taking part in the cluster final at Carlisle on 21st March 2026, is a superb accomplishment, especially given the exceptionally high standard of the competition.

Friday 27 March 2026 Athletics On Wednesday 25th March, Broughton represented the Preston District at the County Championships in the Sports hall Athletics at Stanley Park, Blackpool. The competition is between 14 districts across Lancashire. Each team consists of a Year 7 girls’ team, a Year 7 boys’ team, and Year 8 girls’ team and a Year 8 boys’ team. Broughton represented Preston in all but one of these teams (Year 8 girls) which was represented by Archbishop Temple. The standard of competition on the day is high every year, with some of the most talented athletes from across the county representing their district. For many of the children involved, this is their first ever athletics competition.

Friday 27 March 2026 North-West Regional Swimming Championships Good Luck to Ben Logan (Year 7), who will compete this weekend, and again in April, at the North-West Regional Swimming Championships. Ben will be representing his swimming club, Carnforth & District Otters. The Championships are being held across two Aquatics Centres, one in Liverpool and the other in Manchester. To qualify for each individual event, Ben had to not only reach a consideration time, but also be ranked in the top 24 in his age group in the whole of the North-West.

Friday 27 March 2026 Gothic Story Writing Teddy Selby from Year 7 wrote a fabulous opening to a story this week. You can tell Teddy has taken inspiration from the Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe. I love how the rhetorical questions make it seem so tense and the name of the family really adds to the gothic theme. Well done Teddy!

Friday 27 March 2026 Nathan Parker Visits Broughton On Friday 20th March, we were delighted to welcome Nathan Parker, a local writer, back to Broughton High School to work with all pupils in Year 10. The day began with an engaging and thought-provoking assembly, where Nathan shared his personal journey into writing and performed some of his own work. Pupils found his story both motivating and inspiring, gaining real insight into how creativity and perseverance can shape a career.

Friday 20 March 2026 Rotary Young Musician Competition - Final Many congratulations to Thomas Halstead (Year 10) on his outstanding achievement in the North of England Final of the Rotary Young Musician Competition for 2025–2026. On Saturday, 14th March, Thomas was awarded runner-up in the instrumental section which is a truly remarkable accomplishment, especially given the exceptionally high standard of the competition. Thomas' performance was nothing short of amazing and is a testament to his dedication, talent, and hard work. Thomas represented himself with great distinction, and this success is thoroughly deserved. There is no doubt that this is just one of many future successes. Huge congratulations Thomas. Very well done.

Thursday 19 March 2026 U12 Preston Cup Semi-Final v Our Lady's The U12 Girls' football team played Our Lady's in the semi-final of the Preston Cup on Monday evening, 16th March. After going 1-0 down, the team showed true grit and resilience to come back with a 2-1 victory and to secure their place in the finals night! Well done to the whole team!

Thursday 19 March 2026 Preston Schools’ Netball Tournament Year 7 and 8 competed in the Preston Schools’ Netball tournament on Wednesday afternoon in glorious 21 degrees sunshine! Both teams performed exceptionally well and had a very successful afternoon.

Monday 16 March 2026 Blood Brothers Workshop for Y11 On Monday 9th March, the award-winning Stage Ed delivered an engaging Blood Brothers performance workshop for our Year 11 pupils. Led by professional actors who have previously played Mickey, Sammy and Edward, pupils worked closely with the cast and immersed themselves in the world of Blood Brothers: ideal revision as the exam season approaches.

In addition, they must undertake a two-day, one night expedition. Congratulations to all the Year 11 pupils who have gained their Bronze Award. Very well done!

Friday 13 March 2026 Badminton Success for Nishi Thakkar (Year 9) Well done to Nishi Thakkar 9C on her continued success on the badminton court. Nishi participated recently in Singles and Level Doubles in the 'All Stars U15 Badminton Silver tournament' organised in Southport by Badminton England. Nishi won a silver medal in Level/Women Doubles.

Friday 13 March 2026 U14 Mixed Hockey: Broughton v Lytham St Annes On Wednesday, 11th March, we travelled to Lytham to play a friendly match to allow our pupils the opportunity to play a full 11-a-side mixed hockey game. It was a superb night of enjoyment for all, with some exceptional performances from both teams! The final score was 1-0 to Lytham but Broughton were denied by the goalkeeper on many occasions, even with some incredible shots on target, so couldn't fault our performance!

Friday 13 March 2026 Girls’ U13 Indoor Cricket On Tuesday, 10th March, the girls’ u13 indoor cricket team played in the North Lancashire finals at Bolton Arena. Having only played one game in qualification, the girls were lacking in match experience, but what they lacked in experience they certainly made up for in enthusiasm. They played three matches against some very experienced schools, and despite not winning a game they grew in confidence and made it a tight finish in the final match! A huge well done to all the girls involved, they should be so proud of their effort, application, and enthusiasm throughout.
