Friday 9 May 2025 80th Anniversary of VE Day On Thursday, 8th May 2025, we marked the historic 80th Anniversary of VE Day. At 12 noon, a two minutes’ silence was held in school, with staff and pupils showing their respects. Mr Church, accompanied by Summer Duggan, Liam English, Henry Mason and Seth Wilcock, walked to the war memorial on Garstang Road to join Pat Hastings (Chair of Parish Council), Linda Oldcorn (Parish Councillor) and Steve Rostron (Lengthsman of Broughton), where the last post was played and the two minutes silence was observed. It was a moment to reflect and remember the bravery, sacrifice and service of all those who lived through and served during the Second World war.

Tuesday 6 May 2025 The Dick Clegg Preston Schools' Football Cup Finals Five of our school football teams competed in the Cup Finals held at Deepdale on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th April 2025. All games were played with a real intensity and were extremely close with us winning three and losing one, with one game ending in a draw. Our pupils conducted themselves superbly both on and off the pitch, not only in their hard work, skill, effort, determination and resilience but also in their etiquette, respect for their opponents and manners with the officials and other staff at the game. Many thanks to all our parents, families and friends, who attended across the five games for their excellent support. Thank you also to the members of the PE department who were at all the finals over the two evenings. Congratulations to all the pupils who competed.

Tuesday 6 May 2025 Dance Competition - KS3 Pupils On Wednesday 30th April, 16 pupils in Key Stage 3 took part in a Dance competition. The purpose of the competition was to allow pupils to have the opportunity to create a piece of choreography in a style of their choice with the top three performances being selected to perform in the Dance Performance on the 11th and 12th June. The standard was fantastic and the support that pupils gave to one another created a really positive experience for all pupils involved. Well done to all pupils who had the courage to perform in front of their peers and who invested time in their choreography. The judges for the competition included four Year 10 pupils, Annabel Cooke, Heidi Andrews, Rachael Eaton and Sophie Carlin, as well as Mrs Hough. The final placings were very close with only 5 points separating 1st, 2nd and 3rd place!

Monday 28 April 2025 U16 Girls Football - Preston Cup Semi-Final On Wednesday, we faced Archbishop Temple in the semi-final of the Preston Cup. After a slow start, the team finally settled and began to pressure the opposition. Soon after, May Ackley found the back of the net to take us into half time with a 1-0 lead. The second half saw us push harder and create more scoring opportunities with several shots narrowly missing the goal. It wasn't long after that Olivia Newman-Kirk scored to give us a 2-0 lead.

Wednesday 2 April 2025 U14 Girls’ Football On Wednesday, 2nd April, the girls' U14 football team played away at Corpus in the first round of the Preston Cup. Broughton got off to a fantastic start taking an early lead through Ellie O'Neill. Broughton scored soon again, after some lovely work from Megan Pye to set up Ellie O'Neill who slotted it past the keeper. Despite there being no goals in the second half, it was an entertaining game with opportunities being created by both teams, and both goalkeepers were tested several times.

Thursday 27 March 2025 U14 English Schools Basketball Just over a week ago, the recently crowned Lancashire Champions U14 basketball team headed over to Manchester to take on Wright Robinson college in their first ever English Schools game. The team knew they would be in for a tough game, with the opposition likely to be the strongest that they have faced so far this year. A slow start from Broughton saw Wright Robinson claim an early advantage after the first quarter, and the team knew there was work to be done. A fantastic second quarter saw the team pull the score back, trailing by only 3 points at the half-way mark. Just like the first, it was a slow start to the third that really put a dent in the score line in favour of the opposition, and with only one quarter left, the team trailed by a significant amount. A fantastic display in the last quarter, with everyone contributing saw the team outscore their opposition heavily. Unfortunately, time was against them and the game finished 67-53 to Wright Robinson. A close game that on anothe

Monday 24 March 2025 Author Visit - Nathan Parker On Monday 24th March, we welcomed Nathan Parker back for the third time to deliver an assembly to all of Year 10. Needless to say, it was an absolute privilege to hear of Nathan’s own journey into writing and hear him perform some of his own work. We were also lucky enough to have Nathan deliver workshops, with a focus on poetry and effective public presentations. The workshops included exploring the ingredients of poetry and then culminated in poetry collaboration - one of which you can read below centred around the upcoming English speeches. Year 10 were an absolute credit: a brilliant day, enjoyed by all! Thank you very much, Nathan!
