Science Live 2026

This week, a group of 62 Year 10 Triple Scientists enjoyed a day at St George’s Hall in Bradford for an inspiring and thought‑provoking science conference. The event proved hugely beneficial for all who attended, offering a rare opportunity to hear directly from some of the UK’s most influential and celebrated scientists.  Pupils listened to talks from Professor Lord Robert Winston, Dr Kate Lancaster, Professor Suzie Imber, Professor Jim Al‑Khalili, and Professor Andrea Sella, each sharing fascinating insights from their fields and the real‑world impact of their research.

Among the highlights was Professor Suzie Imber’s exploration of space weather. She explained how solar activity, particularly large solar flares, can have serious effects on digital communications here on Earth, making accurate monitoring increasingly important for modern technology.  Dr Kate Lancaster captured pupils’ imaginations with her talk on the future of fusion energy. She discussed the potential of fusion to meet rising global energy demands and encouraged pupils to consider pursuing careers in this rapidly developing area of research.  The conference also included guidance from Stewart Chenery, a Chief Examiner, who offered practical revision strategies to support students as they prepare for their upcoming GCSEs.

Throughout the day, pupils were exposed to cutting‑edge scientific developments that broadened their understanding and, for many, strengthened their passion for STEM subjects. The experience is sure to support and inspire them as they continue their studies, with many already expressing a renewed interest in following science pathways at college and university.
