EAL (English as an Additional Language)
At our school, we are proud to celebrate and support the rich linguistic diversity of our community. Our English as an Additional Language (EAL) provision is designed to create an inclusive, language-rich environment where all pupils can thrive academically, socially and personally. Through high-quality teaching, targeted interventions and tailored support, we help pupils develop confidence in English, access the full curriculum and become independent, resilient learners. We recognise the unique strengths that multilingual learners bring and are committed to ensuring every pupil feels valued, supported and empowered to succeed.
As part of our approach to EAL, we recognise and celebrate the rich linguistic diversity of our multilingual learners. Pupils whose home language is not English are encouraged to maintain and develop their first language and are supported to gain formal recognition of their linguistic skills through GCSE qualifications in their home language. In recent years, pupils have achieved GCSE success in a range of languages, including Cantonese, Gujarati, Polish, Spanish, Turkish and Urdu. This reflects our commitment to valuing multilingualism and promoting high aspirations for all learners.
