50th Anniversary Celebrations
We had an excellent week of celebrations and whole school events to recognise Broughton High School’s 50th Anniversary. The school opened on the 8th September 1975 with just 3 forms of entry and quickly became extremely popular, growing to the 6 forms of entry we have today. During the school’s 50-year history over 9000 pupils have passed through our gates and it has been a pleasure to welcome so many former pupils and their families back to Broughton this week on our official school tours.
The week started on Monday 30th June 2025 with an extended lunch and BBQ food for the pupils on the school field. It was amazing to see so many pupils on the field, either sitting round with friends, dancing around the music station, skipping on the big skipping rope and getting involved with some traditional sports day activities including egg and spoon races, sack races and an obstacle race. Following the extended lunch, pupils made their way back to their form rooms and then joined the rest of the school on the astroturf for our whole school 50th Anniversary celebration event. After a brief opening speech, our flags were presented with the names of 24 influential people form the past 50 years, one chosen by each form. Alongside some amazing dance, music and singing performances (and very hot weather) the whole school celebrated the school’s 50th birthday in style. A huge thank you to everyone involved with the preparation and performances for this whole school event. One of our school governors commented: “The pupils’ behaviour was truly impeccable. Every ability was represented, and everyone took part, even those who weren’t performing directly who gave such encouragement to their fellow pupils, a real credit to you, your staff, and indeed the pupils themselves.”
During the week, tours of school were held each morning for our former pupils to take a walk down memory lane and see how things have changed over the years! On Saturday 5th July, we held a final event with approximately 100 former pupils and teachers visiting school for a tour in the morning and they enjoyed some wonderful refreshments prepared by our Catering team, whilst reminiscing about their time at Broughton and sharing their memories with each other.
