Broughton High School

Achieving Together

Athletics

On Wednesday 25th March, Broughton represented the Preston District at the County Championships in the Sports hall Athletics at Stanley Park, Blackpool.  The competition is between 14 districts across Lancashire. Each team consists of a Year 7 girls’ team, a Year 7 boys’ team, and Year 8 girls’ team and a Year 8 boys’ team. Broughton represented Preston in all but one of these teams (Year 8 girls) which was represented by Archbishop Temple.  The standard of competition on the day is high every year, with some of the most talented athletes from across the county representing their district. For many of the children involved, this is their first ever athletics competition.   Over the course of the afternoon, all of the competitors compete in their events and it is always hard to gauge how well the teams fair overall, making all teams eagerly anticipate the final standings. At the end of the competition the results were as follows:

Year 7 Girls     9th / 14 districts           Year 8 Boys    8th / 14 districts

The Year 7 boys placed 1st overall with a whopping 395 points, placing them ahead of second place (Montgomery) who had 358 points and third place (All Hallows) who had 349. A very successful win by the Year 7 boys!

It was enjoyable afternoon for all pupils, who as always, represented Broughton and the district with pride.
