U12 Basketball

The Year 7 basketball team kicked off their season with a fantastic 40-17 victory over Longridge High School in the Lancashire Basketball League.  
All ten members of the team contributed to the victory, with everyone improving as the game went on. Excellent points tally from Jamie Skelding, Johnny Berry and Oliver Ward scoring 8 points each, assisted with some excellent decision making from Darcey Skelton and some super defensive work from Freddie Calder.  Special thanks to Myerscough College who run training every Monday after school. All Year 7 pupils are welcome to attend.

U14 Basketball

This week, the U14 team played two games, on Monday vs St Michael’s and on Wednesday vs Longridge. Monday’s game was a Lancashire Cup quarter-final tie against a strong St Michael’s. A slow scoring match saw the scores level throughout most of the game, before Broughton fell behind with a minute to spare. Some great attacking play saw a shooting foul given, from which Broughton got back to within one. With 30 seconds left on the clock, a three-point effort from the corner of the court taken by Angelo Salisbury-Fitch flew straight through the basket with a satisfying swish. This gave Broughton a two-point victory with the game finishing 18-16.

On Wednesday, the team travelled up the road to Longridge. Always a tough opposition, the boys knew they would be in for a tough game. Turning on the style throughout, with fantastic lay-ups, set shots and defensive play, the boys stormed to a 38-16 victory to keep the winning run going.

A fantastic effort from all involved over the two fixtures and we have both Preston league games and a Lancashire Cup semi-final vs Clitheroe to look forward to. Well done!
