Football – Year 8 Boys
The Year 8 team played their first Preston league match on Thursday 9th October, taking on a strong Our Lady's side. A defensive game plan worked exactly as planned for the team, with very little chances being conceded in the opening 20 minutes. A long-range shot was deflected 10 minutes before the break, and that saw Our lady's take the lead. Some fantastic tenacity from Ellis Dawson gave Broughton a lift, and a Jamie Skelding pinpoint cross was dispatched just before the break by Theo Haythornthwaite to bring the game level.
The second half saw end-to-end football played, with both teams creating chances. Our Lady's took the lead once more via another long-range effort, and a switch off defensively saw them grab an extra 2 goals to lead 4-1. Despite this, the boys never gave up, working hard and creating chance after chance, but couldn't find the finishing touch.
Special mentions to Zac Robinson in goal, who pulled off two wonder saves late on, to keep the score line as it was, and secondly Daniel Dhilwayo who worked tirelessly to keep the Our Lady's defence on their toes throughout. A great effort from the whole team, and certainly something to build on moving forward.

Football – Year 9 Boys
This week the Year 9 boys’ team took on Eden Boys. This was a great opportunity to reward a few players with game time in return for their dedication in attending training regularly. The team played superbly well and had to overcome the adversity of going behind quite early in the game. Good energy from Oli Ogden, in a central midfield role, saw him score an excellent individual goal to level the game before half time. In the second half, Broughton took a little more control which saw Henry Smart get a goal, in his first game for the team this season, to win the game for Broughton.
Team
Lucas Charnley, Nathan Walsh, Spencer Holt, Sam Middleton, Bobby Collins, Solomon Brindle, Oli Ogden, Oakley Shipp, Romeo Brown, Matthew Kellett, Henry Smart, Jamie Stewart.
This was the team’s first win of the season with Alfie Moore, Sam Barker, Harley Waite, James Whittaker, Ted Brown, Jayson Are, Noah Parkinson, Dom Edwards and Dylan Parker all representing the school in the other three fixtures. The team have showed a lot more maturity and team spirit this season and, despite narrowly losing games, I have been impressed with their attitude, behaviour and teamwork. Keep it up guys.

Football – Year 11 Boys
The Year 11 football team maintained their 100% start to the season having beaten Clitheroe GS 3-2 and Archbishop 4-0. Thursday night’s opponents were Our Lady’s. An athletic bunch, with a very direct game plan on a small pitch, caused the boys some problems in the first half. In the second half, Our Lady’s went 1-0 up. However, Broughton adapted well, changing our usual incisive passing game to a more direct plan until the final third. A slick slide ball from Max Burge put Matthew Ward through at a tight angle which he rifled into the top corner with 10 minutes to play. Game on! Minutes later, Rayhaan Mohamed pounced on a loose ball on the left wing which he jinked inside to finish high into the Our Lady’s net.
Our Lady’s could have tied the game in the last minute as their striker missed a free header at the back post.
Final score Our Lady’s 1 - 2 Broughton … and 3 more points!
