Football - Utilita Girls Cup
On Thursday, 20th November, the girls’ U13 football team played in the annual Utilita Girls Cup, hosted by Preston North End at Bamber Bridge Sports Hub. The girls were not hampered by the freezing conditions and after playing 7 matches in a round robin league format, Broughton finished in 2nd place, booking a place in the semi final against 3rd placed Penwortham Priory Academy. Broughton put in an excellent performance, winning the semi final 3-0 with goals coming from Louisa Kitchen, Darcey Skelton and Hannah Kelly.
Broughton then faced Lostock Hall Academy in the final, in what proved to be a tight game. Broughton had more possession, but couldn't find a way past their excellent academy keeper. There was a goal mouth scramble down the other end, in which there was an unfortunate rebound off a Broughton player to put Lostock 1-0 up. Broughton pressed hard for an equaliser, but with the game only being 12 minutes one way, they ran out of time, and the game finished 1-0 to Lostock Hall Academy. Broughton finished an impressive 2nd place overall, in what was a fantastic all round team performance throughout the competition. All the girls involved should feel incredibly proud of their performance - well done!
