French Penpal Exchange
Year 10 French pupils in class 10R/Fr are involved in an exciting penpal exchange with a partner school in Menton, a beautiful coastal town in the south-east of France. Through regular letters, our pupils are developing their French skills while helping their French counterparts improve their English - a perfect fit for GCSE study. Recently, the exchange has taken a very entertaining turn, as our students received a series of voice notes featuring French jokes! These proved both hilarious and fascinating, giving us a real insight into how humour differs across cultures! Some of our favourites included:
- What’s yellow and waiting? “Jonathan” (a play on pronunciation : jaune + attend)
- What’s green and goes up and down? A pea in a lift
- What’s a baby’s favourite sport? Le baby-foot (French for table football!)
- What three letters do you drink at breakfast? “KKO”
- (French letters that sound like “cacao”)
- What’s a magician’s favourite bread? A baguette (also the word for a wand!)
Monsieur Tomlin
