Achieving Together

Music Department at Christmas

The past two weeks have been especially busy and rewarding for the Music Department, with pupils taking part in a range of festive performances both in school and across the local community. These events gave pupils the opportunity to share their music with a wide audience and play an active role in community celebrations.

The festive season began with visits to local venues, including Banksfield Nursing Home in Preston, where pupils sang traditional Christmas carols for residents, and carolling performances at the Toll Bar Café and Broughton Co-op. These occasions were warmly received and helped to create a cheerful atmosphere for residents, shoppers and visitors alike. Pupils also performed at the Pensioners’ Christmas Dinner at Broughton Tennis Club, an event made particularly special by the inclusion of singers from Barton St Lawrence Primary School, whose joint performance was thoroughly enjoyed by those in attendance.

The highlight of this busy period was the annual Christmas Concert, held on Tuesday evening in front of a packed audience. The evening opened with performances from the Junior Orchestra and Ukulele Club and featured contributions from over 80 pupils in a wide range of solos, duets and ensemble performances. The Jazz Band and School Choir performed later in the programme, rounding off an evening that showcased an impressive variety of musical styles, from festive favourites and traditional carols to rock, pop and instrumental works. Music by artists such as Oasis, The Smiths, Billy Joel and Sia sat comfortably alongside seasonal classics, ensuring there was something for everyone.

All pupils involved were a credit to themselves and the school, demonstrating commitment, confidence and musicianship throughout. Thank you to everyone who came along to support the performances and help make this a memorable end to the term.
