Netball News
On Monday 17th November, the Year 10 netball team played against St Cecilia's. It was an exceptionally cold night but the quality of performance and determination from both teams was fantastic. The pupils’ hands were so cold that catching the ball and shooting was a challenge in itself! However, the pupils adapted their strategies and managed to overcome the bitter cold. The Broughton side took a strong lead in the first half; 11-4.
On return, the Broughton team worked tirelessly to overturn centre pass after centre pass, making some amazing interceptions and working as a defensive unit. The final score was 19-7 to Broughton. The player of the match was Ellie O'Neill.
On Monday 24th November, Broughton hosted our first outdoor netball fixture this season against Longridge. It was a fantastic opportunity to host netball fixtures on our new courts and see so many pupils competing in netball in one evening! There were three fixtures, Years 9, 10 and 11; a total of 51 pupils between the two schools were involved.
- The Year 9 team managed to sustain an early lead and finished their game winning 7-2.
Megan Pye was the player of the match.
- The Year 10 automatically took the points for the league due to the opposition not being able to field a full team. The Year 10's therefore played a mixed team, friendly match, but unfortunately lost.
- Year 11 had a tough start trailing 10-1 after the first half. By the end of the game the final score was 14-10 to Longridge which was an impressive come back from Broughton Year 11. This concluded the Year 11 netball league. The Year 11 team finished 4th in the league across Preston. Well done Year 11. A special mention to those of you who have played on the school netball team for the past 5 years! (Rachael Eaton, Mia Murphy and Lauren McCulloch).
