Preston Schools' Football Cup Final - U13 Boys
Broughton 1-1 Our Lady's
The Year 8 boys’ team went into Tuesday's final facing a strong Our Lady's side, who had previously won the Preston league, not losing a game. This meant that the boys knew they would have to work hard for each other in order to get a result. A frantic start was very quickly calmed once the size of the pitch took control of the game, with both sides taking time to settle into the occasion. Broughton dominated the opening thirty minutes, and with a high press and constant desire to win every ball, they should have taken the lead numerous times. Persistence paid off however, with Oliver Ward dancing through into the box before driving home into the far-right corner, to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
In the second half of the U13 boys, Broughton v Our Lady’s game, both teams battled constantly, again with Broughton creating many opportunities. Our Lady's however managed to level the game, when a well-worked move saw Zac Robinson beaten in the goal. Zac then proceeded to produce some fantastic keeping, with an under the crossbar punch away, from a corner that left everyone amazed.
The game finished 1-1, and with no extra-time or penalties, the cup is shared between both sides. This is a fantastic achievement for the team, who have come a long way over the last year. Well done to all involved!
