Preston Schools' Football Cup Finals - U14 Boys

Broughton 4 - 2 Ashton
On Tuesday evening, the Year 9 boys played Ashton High School in the Preston School Dawson Cup Final at PNE. A big thanks must go to the organisers and PNE for continuing to host such a fantastic event that showcases football across the Preston District. At the start of the game, Broughton took a while to settle into their stride and Ashton created the earlier opportunities. Once the nerves had calmed, Broughton began their direct and high-pressure game style. After 10 minutes, Sam Barker opened the scoring with a powerful drive from distance, through the Ashton goalkeeper, to put Broughton ahead. Moments later, it was Sam again who drove down the left wing before selflessly squaring the ball for Jayson Are to tap the ball home 2-0 Broughton. Before half time, Ashton pulled a goal back from a good passage of play.
In the second half, Broughton started to make changes and Jamie Stewart came on to play a sublime direct forward pass for Sam Barker to score his second goal of the night, with a superb finish. Ashton hit back to go 3-2 after a period of sustained pressure. However, Captain Alfie Moore sealed the victory with a long-range strike to win the game Broughton 4 - 2 Ashton. Well done to all the boys involved. Their journey and progress this season have been great to watch. They have shown so much more maturity in their play, and as a group have displayed excellent teamwork and resilience throughout the season. Well done boys.
