Red Squirrel Conservation

On Wednesday, 17th December, a small group of Year 9 and Year 10 pupils had a presentation from Heather, a former Broughton pupil, who now works as Communications Manager for the Red Squirrel Recovery Network, part of the Wildlife Trust.

Heather and her colleague shared some of the challenges facing red squirrels and explained why they are now an endangered species. The talk highlighted the importance of the North-West as a key area for red squirrel conservation. Pupils also learned about career roles linked to environmental work and campaigning.

The group were then sent a collection of photographs of red squirrels and set a challenge – to cast the squirrels in roles for the nativity – to be used by the Trust as a social media post to raise the profile of their work.
