U14 Girls’ Football – Lancashire Cup

On Tuesday, 23rd September, the girls’ U14 football team kicked off their season with a game away at Our Ladies. It was the first round in the Lancashire Cup, and knowing some of the Our Lady's players had won the National Cup last year at U12s, our girls knew they were in for a tough game.

Broughton started well and it was only 10 minutes in when Claire Nunn found the back of the net to put Broughton into an early lead. Darcey Skelton soon made it 2-0 with an excellent long range effort. Our Lady's fought back and scored two goals in quick succession to make it all square at half time.

Broughton had now grown in confidence and went ahead again with another goal from Darcey Skelton. A 4th goal from Megan Pye put Broughton 4-2 up with 10 minutes to go and it looked like the game was over with, until a last minute scrappy goal from Our Lady's made for a tense last few minutes! Broughton saw the game out to win 4-3 and progress to the next round, where we will be facing Shuttleworth High School. A huge well done to all the girls involved!
