U16 Boys - English Schools' Football
On Friday, 16th January, our U16 boys' football team played in the 6th round of the English Schools' Cup against Stockport School, Manchester.
The team were exceptional from start to finish in the way they played with intelligence, heart and sportsmanship.
An early penalty, won and dispatched by Rayhaan Mohamed, saw Broughton take the lead. Stockport struck back 10 minutes later to level the score. Broughton raised their game and dominated the last 20 minutes of the half with excellent, patient possession, but could not quite find the finishing touch.
18 minutes into the second half, after again dominating, Riley Stansfield rifled the ball into the top corner, adding to his excellent hat trick in the previous round, making it 2-1 Broughton. The boys managed the remainder of the game with class and poise. Alfie Aquilina came on and solidified the midfield and Harry Moss came on to frustrate Stockport's best player and stop any attacks.
Good luck to the squad who now march on to the last 16 schools in the country and if they win round 7 will be representing the NW in the Quarter Finals.
Squad: Charlie Longshaw , Tommy Swan, James Lillystone, Hugh Smith, Matty Ward, Billy Ward, Archie Winkley, Ellis Worthington, Ely Cowell, Rayhaan Mohamed, Riley Stansfield, Harry Moss, Alfie Aquilina.
