Year 7 Geographers Celebrate Antarctica Flag Day

As part of the UK Polar Network’s annual Antarctica Flag Day Initiative, our Year 7 geographers have been exploring the value of Antarctica and the importance of global cooperation in protecting this unique and fragile continent. In celebration of the initiative, every Year 7 pupil designed a flag to represent Antarctica — a symbol of unity, environmental stewardship, and scientific collaboration.

The creativity and thoughtfulness shown in the designs were truly impressive, with pupils incorporating themes of wildlife, climate, peace, and international partnership. While there were many outstanding entries, we are delighted to announce that this year’s winning design was created by Phoebe Knight in 7R. Her flag stood out for its striking imagery and powerful message, earning the honour of being sent to Antarctica.

Phoebe’s flag is now enroute to the icy continent, where it will be photographed alongside one of the scientists working there. We look forward to sharing that special image with you in the coming months — a proud moment for Phoebe and a wonderful reminder of the global significance of protecting Antarctica.

Well done to all our Year 7 pupils for their enthusiasm and creativity in this inspiring initiative!
