Year 7 Girls' Football
On Wednesday evening, 15th January 2025, it was the finals night of the Year 7 girls’ football league. Both our A and B teams made it through, after finishing in 2nd and 3rd in the league respectively.
They played each other in the first game of the night, which followed a round robin format with 5 teams there. It was a tight game which could have gone either way with both teams having chances, however it was Broughton A that edged to victory with the last kick of the game.
Broughton A then continued on a winning streak, beating both Corpus and Archbishop Temple to set up a final against Our Lady's. Our Lady's had won two games but drawn against Corpus, so only a win was good enough for them. Broughton A defended valiantly against them, and had an excellent chance on the counter attack which unfortunately wasn't converted. Our Lady's grew increasingly frustrated as the game drew on, they couldn't find a way through the tough Broughton defence and goalkeeper Minnie Charnley made a fantastic save to keep them at bay. The game ended 0-0, making Broughton A Year 7 football league winners. Congratulations to both the A and B teams; all the girls who have played throughout the league should be proud of their effort and performance. The girls will be in action again on Wednesday 29th January at home to St. Bede's in round 3 of the Lancashire Cup.
