Physical Education (PE)
The Physical Education department aims to provide a safe atmosphere in which all pupils can enjoy and achieve in sport. We also aim to challenge all pupils to follow a healthy active lifestyle both in and out of the school environment, with the department boasting an exceptional range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for students.
The school actively encourages pupils’ involvement in extra-curricular clubs. As a result, sports clubs are very well-attended and teams enjoy success in local District, County and National competitions.
At Broughton we are extremely proud of our 'state of the art' facilities that offer all pupils access to the very best teaching and learning resources. Teaching and learning is a top priority in all lessons and we aim to challenge pupils to reach aspirational outcomes. Academic rigour and high expectations for all pupils underpin all decisions and approaches within the department.
Approaches to Teaching and Learning in PE
All pupils are encouraged to work independently in a variety of contexts including team and individual sports and fitness-based activities. Each activity offers challenges that encourage individual, peer, team and whole class participation whilst also providing opportunities to develop umpiring and leadership skill in a safe learning environment.
Pupils enjoy practical lessons that encourage participation in competition and develop a confidence to try new skills. GCSE theory lesson engage students in a variety of practical activities. As a result of excellent teaching, exam results are exceptionally high in GCSE PE and well above National Averages.
