LUSoM Visit to Year 9
This week we were given an opportunity for some pupils in Year 9 to have a visit by Lancaster University School of Mathematics (LUSoM) and Simon Singh. Simon Singh, MBE, is a popular science author, theoretical and particle physicist. He has written books such as Fermat’s Last Theorem, Big Bang and The Simpsons and their Mathematical Secrets.
Simon told the children why he found Maths so fascinating, and discussed the thrill of solving puzzles. It was discussed how Maths is now the most popular subject taken at A-level and how many other areas such as Psychology, Sociology and Law, all rely on a good knowledge of Mathematics.
This was a very enjoyable session. We are very grateful to both Simon and LUSoM for coming in to talk to the class and we look forward to further visits in the future.
