U14 Basketball Team - Lancashire Champions!
The U14 basketball team were crowned Lancashire champions on Monday night, 10th February 2025, in a fantastic game played at Myerscough College. The team took on St. Augustine's, and having never played against them before, knew they had to be at the top of their game to win the title. The first quarter saw both teams start slow, with neither taking a real hold of the game, however it was Broughton who took a 4-point lead after the first 10.
The second quarter saw the team really settle into the match, with every player on the court working together to not only put on points, but to also defend strong and prevent St Augustine's from closing the gap. It was the third quarter where Broughton really turned on the style. Some mesmerising individual and team baskets saw them take a commanding lead into the last 10.
With a full rotation and all players getting minutes in the last quarter, a combination of fresh legs and drive to win saw the team bring home a 40-12 victory. This is something to be very proud of, becoming Lancashire champions is never easy and the way the team worked together throughout all rounds of the competition is a credit to both themselves and the school. An additional mention must go to the 20 pupils and numerous staff who came down to support and cheer on the team. This really helped the team drive forwards throughout the game and your support was very much appreciated. A huge well done to all involved, the whole school are very proud of what you achieved.
Finally, the MVP was voted for by the match officials and tournament organiser, and was awarded to someone who they felt has a significant impact on the game both offensively and defensively. This is a big award as it shows that you have been recognised by neutral officials and identified as one of the best players during the match.
MVP was awarded to Harvey Botes.
