Friday 19 December 2025 Music Department at Christmas The past two weeks have been especially busy and rewarding for the Music Department, with pupils taking part in a range of festive performances both in school and across the local community. These events gave pupils the opportunity to share their music with a wide audience and play an active role in community celebrations.

Friday 19 December 2025 End of Term Assemblies We held our new ‘gameshow' end of term rewards and house assemblies today led by Mr Bailey and Mr Peterson where a huge number of pupils were recognised for their academic and pastoral efforts and achievements in school this half term, whilst having some competitive fun playing ‘Blankety Blank' and ‘The Generation Game' amongst other fun activities. On top of festive lunches, and our final day as a ‘charity non-uniform' day, it has been a very busy and exciting end to the term.

Monday 15 December 2025 Orienteering in P.E. Over the last two weeks, Years 8 & 9 have taken part in four lessons of orienteering during PE. It has been a fantastic two weeks, with invaluable experience gained and life lessons learned along the way. Starting with an introduction lesson, pupils had to complete a 10-point star course in pairs, aiming to find the points quickly and efficiently using the map before returning to be checked, this resulted in some intense competition, with pupils completing the half-course task in record times.

Monday 15 December 2025 MFL Cologne Christmas Trip 2025 On the evening of Tuesday 2nd December, 29 Year 9 and 10 pupils set off on our long-awaited trip to Cologne, accompanied by Mrs Hendey, Mr Weaver and Miss Cuthbert. The journey was long, but worth the wait as we arrived in the beautiful city of Cologne, ready to speak German, experience the culture of the Christmas markets and activate the Christmas spirit!

Monday 15 December 2025 Year 7 Football Over the last three Wednesdays, the Year 7 A & B teams have taken part in the group stages of the Preston football league. Travelling to Ashton on all three nights, both teams played eight games, with both teams playing all A & B teams to try and accumulate points. It has been an incredible successful for both teams. Despite the tough format, both teams managed to score significantly more than they conceded, and a combination of teamwork, hard-work and effort saw a strong set of results be achieved.

Tuesday 9 December 2025 Netball - Years 7 & 10 On Tuesday, 9th December, the Year 7 and Year 10 netball teams played against Christ the King. Year 7 played in their second game of the league and, after panicky start, they settled into the game and managed to overcome the opposition who were significantly taller than the Broughton side. After numerous significant interceptions by Mollie Killeen, Tilly Rowland and Millie Sealey, Broughton turned over a number of centre passes and played some very aesthetic attacking play.

Friday 5 December 2025 Meet the Expert 2025 It was a busy week for Year 8 in Careers! The day after the Futures Fair all of Year 8 had a fantastic opportunity to sit down with people from the local area working in a range of jobs. They had a meaningful, long form conversation with the experts about their jobs.

Friday 5 December 2025 Broughton High School Futures Fair 2025 Last Wednesday Broughton held our annual Futures Fair. The event was a huge success with pupils from all Year Groups interacting with 27 visitors from a range of industries, education providers and local businesses

Friday 5 December 2025 Rotary Youth Speaks Intermediate Competition On Tuesday, 2nd December, we entered three teams into the Rotary Youth Speaks Intermediate Competition at Balshaw’s CE High School in Leyland. The evening was full of talent and enthusiasm from all schools and what I found particularly impressive was that each speech was different and reflected the skills and personality of the individuals.

Friday 5 December 2025 Netball - Year 7 Year 7 competed in their first netball fixture of the league on Wednesday evening, 3rd December. They were very successful, winning 13-3 against Moor Park, remaining calm and composed throughout.

Friday 5 December 2025 Lancashire Equality Mark We were delighted to be invited to a celebration event at County Hall this week to receive our Lancashire Equality Mark Award, a recognition of three years of dedicated work to promote and celebrate diversity, inclusion, and equality across our whole school community. Miss Harris, Mrs Wallace, and three Year 10 pupils, Alexander, Lily, and Priya, attended a special ceremony at County Hall where they delivered a presentation showcasing the impact of all our work and accepted the award on behalf of the school. Receiving the Lancashire Equality Mark is a proud moment for our school, but it is also a reminder of the ongoing importance of maintaining an ethos understanding, respect, and kindness in a school where everyone can ‘achieve together’. Wednesday 3 December 2025 U14s Girls' Football On Wednesday 3rd December, the girls’ U14 football team played in the next round of the Lancashire Cup, away at Shuttleworth College. Despite the freezing conditions, the Broughton girls put in a convincing performance, dominating play and leaving goalkeeper Daisy Wilson with very little to do. Broughton went on to win the game 4-0, with goals came from Darcey Skelton x2, Heidi Boyce, and Louisa Kitchen.

Friday 28 November 2025 Descriptive Writing In Year 8 we have been studying Oliver Twist. Amirah's class were tasked with creating a descriptive piece where they contrasted the squalid Victorian city conditions with the romanticised countryside.

Friday 28 November 2025 Parliament Week This week we have celebrated Parliament Week, giving students the chance to learn more about democracy and the role of Parliament. Throughout the week, students took part in a range of activities, including: voting for this term’s school charity, a Parliament Quiz, testing knowledge of how government works and the role of MPs and a library display, featuring resources and information to help students explore the history and importance of Parliament.

Friday 28 November 2025 Rotary Young Musician Competition Thomas Halstead (Year 10) was delighted to represent Longridge and North Preston Rotary Club and Broughton High School on Saturday 15th November in the local stage of the Young Musician competition in Heysham.

Friday 28 November 2025 Football - Utilita Girls Cup On Thursday, 20th November, the girls’ U13 football team played in the annual Utilita Girls Cup, hosted by Preston North End at Bamber Bridge Sports Hub. The girls were not hampered by the freezing conditions and after playing 7 matches in a round robin league format, Broughton finished in 2nd place, booking a place in the semi final against 3rd placed Penwortham Priory Academy. Broughton put in an excellent performance, winning the semi final 3-0 with goals coming from Louisa Kitchen, Darcey Skelton and Hannah Kelly.

Friday 28 November 2025 Netball News On Monday 17th November, the Year 10 netball team played against St Cecilia's. It was an exceptionally cold night but the quality of performance and determination from both teams was fantastic. The pupils' hands were so cold that catching the ball and shooting was a challenge in itself! However, the pupils adapted their strategies and managed to overcome the bitter cold. The Broughton side took a strong lead in the first half; 11-4.

Friday 14 November 2025 Sewing Bee at Broughton During Sewing Bee, we have been busy (bees) making poppies for Remembrance Day. You may have seen us wearing a white poppy, which is remembrance of all victims of war, challenging war and militarism, and a commitment to peace. You may have seen the purple poppy which is worn to remember animals that have been victims of war. Animals like horses, dogs and pigeons were often drafted into the war effort, and those that wear the purple poppy feel their service should be seen as equal to that of human service. In particular, many horses were killed or injured in World War One.

Friday 14 November 2025 Remembrance 2025 On Tuesday11th November, we held two minutes of silence in school at 11.00am to commemorate Remembrance Day followed by the ‘The Last Post’. I
